General Manager NZ's comment:
As always there is plenty happening in the rural sector, It has been some time since we have sent out an update from ADM. The much-needed improvement in farming economics has been welcomed by us all. It is great to see the sector finally doing better and farmers investing to maximise returns while the prices are good. The improved economics combined with some poor pasture growing conditions has seen a steady rise in the use of concentrate feeds over the last 12 months. The first 6 months of 2025 saw record levels of concentrate being fed putting the industry under pressure at times. Unfortunately, a fire in our Taranaki facility impacted our output over the autumn and we apologies to customers who were impacted by this. A new screener has finally arrived in the country, and we are now back up to full production in this region.
Winter / spring has seen slower than average pasture growth in most of the North Island leading to a strong start to spring demand. To ensure we are able to meet this demand we are running night shifts in our sheds.
It is particularly pleasing to see the number of our customers who are now feeding concentrate blends to ensure balanced nutrition and achieve the best possible milk production. Please plan your feed requirements in advance to help us work with your transporters to ensure we are collectively able to get the feed to you when required.
It is pleasing to see that the southland region has had a kinder winter, and spring has started with higher pasture covers and better ground conditions than they saw in the tough spring last year.
